Mary Anne Hobbs Quits The BBC Print E-mail

Mary Anne Hobbs There can't be many people living in the UK who haven't at one point or another listened to the Breezeblock with Mary Anne Hobbs. Her love of underground bass music and endless promotion of the dubstep genre have helped cement it as one of the most popular genres amongst the youth of Britian. It's hard to comprehend the possibility that the genre would have ever leaked out from the London boroughs if it weren't for her show. Many of you will no doubt be saddened to hear that she is now leaving her position at Radio One.

Wiley Releases 200 Tracks For Free Print E-mail

Wiley releases 200 tracks for free Some of you reading this probably use Twitter. Some of you might have worked out the (slight) benefits of the service - like hearing about the odd free/secret gig, getting free music and things like that. Well last week the twitosphere (twatosphere?) was rocked by one of those crazy free music moments. Wiley suddenly and unexpectedly gave away over 200 tracks to his fans on twitter and GrimeForum.net and within moments they were known to fans as 'The Zip Files' and even had an album cover circulating.

Skream Releases Music Video Print E-mail
Skream Video
It's not often these days that a fuss gets made about a music video for a dance music track. Probably because the standard formula exists and no one has ever bothered to tweak it: scantily clad girl(s) + being chased or dancing + the dj trying to look cool and wearing sunglasses... even in the dark. That's the standard format and if you watch MTV Dance or any other utterly tragic music television station then that's what you'll see, on repeat, forever and ever, until the point at which you tear your eyeballs out while crying in vain for something with some substance to come in to your life.

New Venetian Snares Album Announced Print E-mail
Venetian Snares

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. Dear god yes. Venetian Snares has announced his new album. Now I know this is a dubstep and drum and bass section, but we do have a little licence to blur the boundaries and so i'm throwing this little ditty into the equation because - let's face it - breakcore is just REALLY fucked up dnb. If you haven't heard of Snares... get some NOW. If you don't like him... well then their is something seriously wrong/not broken about your brain. One would have to question whether you've even done drugs before...

Well one half - or two thirds should i say - of the Autonomic team is Instra:Mental and they've got a fantastic label called NonPlus. If you haven't checked it out already... well then their something serously wrong with you because it's bloody amazing. They've also just announced their release schedule for the next few months... it looks tasty.

Free Breakage Remix Of Plan B Print E-mail
Breakage

Whether you like Plan B or not - you've got to be impressed with the way that he has managed to negotiate his way from being a street-urchin raggamuffin, to wearing a suit and appearing on Jonathon Ross' late night tv show. That's some career he's getting himself there. Rags to riches shit. Alright, i happen to think the whole 'i'm in character on this album' stuff is a bit cringy, but I bet loads of people out there love it... and of course its fine that he's aiming to sell to both you and your guardian-newspaper-reading mum. That's fine and dandy. Go right ahead... i'll be over in this corner though... cringing up into a small ball and biting my tongue.

New True Playaz Compilation Print E-mail
True Playaz
Tru Playaz have been running the drum and bass thing red for a time now. I mean so long that it's hard to put into words just how much influence these guys have over the industry. They literally know everyone. I bet some days they sit down with Goldie and play 'dnb chess' for a laugh... "i bet i can get my new artist's dubplate rinsed by more dj's than yours." "How much?", "A kilo?",  "Done." Enough of my imagination and it's retarded ramblings though.. the point of this news post is that Tru Playaz are releasing the third in their series of classics compilations. This one selected by Original Sin.
