Podcast 02 Dexcell Print E-mail
Dexcell Podcast And Q&ADexcell are a three-piece production crew from Hertfordshire, consisting of Trak D (Dave Wilson), Slick (Sammy Stabile) and Smarty (Adam Smart). They make both Dubstep and Drum and Bass and to be honest - they do a damn good job of producing both. They've been making waves in drum and bass for a while now and you can tell from their production sound that they are serious about what they do. If these boys aren't making major moves in the next few years then there is something seriously wrong with the dance music scene and we clearly need to start all over again.

High Rankin Q&A And EP Review Print E-mail

High Rankin Cut You Down EP

High Rankin is one of dubstep's most vibrant and colourful personalities and he's also one of Brighton's most well respected dance music exports. In the last few years he's gone from local name to big ol' star and the release of his Meow Meow video and t-shirts has made him something of a cult personality in the press as well. He's recently relaunched his Suicide Dub label and the first EP is a genre-breakin release with drum and bass, electro, dubstep and two tracks that frankly almost defy categorisation.

Resonance At Jam Review Print E-mail

Resonance @ Jam Review

Saturday night saw a monumental night of drum and bass hit Brighton - and no, i'm not talking about Taxman and Hazard at The Volks. In that little basement club over on Middle Street known as Jam, two of dnb's most well respected youngsters were scheduled to perform a back-to-back set that had the heads in Brighton in an absolute flutter. Rockwell and Jubei have both developed quite a reputation over the last few years and you know at a show like this they are guaranteed to smash it.

Multiverse Dark Matter Album Review Print E-mail

Multiverse: Dark Matter 2004-2009 Compilation

If London is the birthplace of dubstep, then Bristol is like it's foster home. After it's inception on the streets of Croyden it was sent away every weekend to the smaller city of Bristol where it got a taste for techno and drum and bass influences. Like any youth in a small town it made friends quickly and before dubstep knew it - it had been officially adopted by the people of Bristol. Few labels have done as much for dubstep as those in Bristol. Labels like Tectonic and Caravan sit alonside DMZ and Tempa as the leading lights in the development of the sound.

Dusk & Blackdown Margins Music Live Review Print E-mail

Margins Music Live Review

I've tried to write this review several times without sounding like some kind of gushing euphoric child and quite frankly it's not happening. The fact of the matter is that I love Dusk and Blackdown and seeing them live on-stage producing Indian influenced garage music was like some kind of dream for me. I spend a lot of my life listening to acts like Nitin Sawhney and Talvin Singh and if you can imagine that music, but with garage rhythm's - and live - then you might come close to imagining what this gig was like. It was fucking immense.

Jazzsteppa EP Review Print E-mail

Jazzsteppa EP Review

Listening to Jazzsteppa is like watching your grandad sniff a line of K. It shouldn't really be happening - dubstep and jazz? Doesn't sound right does it. Unlike your grandad sniffing a line of K though Jazzsteppa does actually work quite well. Live instruments combined with heavy as fuck dubstep are what Jazzsteppa have made their name doing and they continue to be one of the finest examples of this cross-over sound around today. They've got a new ep out so we thought we'd give you the lowdown on what you can expect from this release.

Klute 'Music For Prophet' Album Review' Print E-mail

Klute Album Review

Klute is responsible for some of the most ground-breaking tracks and albums in drum and bass history. There are few people who can have had more of an influence on modern day drum and bass. In fact i'd put the whole movement towards minimal and soundscape drum and bass down to him and Amit. Not only this but he is also responsible for one of the best imprints around - Commercial Suicide. Home to many a top-class producer. Not only does Klute have talent, he can spot it as well.
