Without doubt, one of the most exciting acts on the Dubstep scene at the moment is Bar 9. Since their first releases back in 2008 this duo has gone from strength to strength and shows no sign of slowing down. They are regularly placed at the top of bills with the likes of Loefah, Foreign Beggars and many other huge names. If you haven’t heard of them, where have you been?
What sets Bar 9 apart from their contemporaries is their ability to consistently produce excellent tunes. From the smash hit ‘Midnight’ to the latest release ‘Triple Drop’ - every single track released has been a dirty dubstep anthem. Not a single tune has been a let down. And it’s not just the style of dubstep that this duo make that has garnered them so much attention, their production work really is incredibly polished. It’s impressive to see such a young duo bursting on to the music scene with such an awesome array of tunes and remixes. In fact it’s more than impressive – its amazing.
It’s clear that the industry feels the same way about Bar 9 as their audiences do. Their tunes are getting played by every big name DJ around and they’re working with some respectable labels. Many of their releases have come from ‘Audio Freakz’ and its parent label ‘Z-Audio’, originally a breakbeat label but now branching out into other genres of dance music. Label mates consist of Nero, Rob Sparx, Riskotheque and an array of other quality producers, so you know their in good company.
Bar 9 played their first gig in Brighton on the 17th October and it was a heavy show. If you haven’t seen them live yet, then do so right away. They seem to be touring constantly around the UK and have to be heard through a rig to be believed. Go to their Myspace page, find out where they are playing near you, and support this young dubstep outfit. Every second of their grimey, filthy, head-splitting sound is a musical treat.
