St Patrick's day is the annual celebration of the patron saint of Ireland and - let's face it - one of the biggest piss-up days of the year. This time next year though it will also be the first anniversary of Icy Hype Promotions first event. It's taking place at the Kuku club on the 17th March and looks scheduled to be a very cheap way of revelling in the celebrations.
Before we even discuss the acts it's worth quoting part of the event description from the facebook page:
"What we are trying to do is spice up the events scene in Brighton, we want to bring something that's a little bit more than just the music... performers, VJS and games as well as other bits and pieces that will be kept under wraps."
Sounds interesting doesn't it? I love it when an event promises things besides music and decorations - gets my brain wondering about all the possibilities!
On to the music... the headline act will be local dubstep aficianado and all round scene legend - Riskotheque. If your not familiar with the man's work then firstly where the hell have you been and secondly go check out 'Monster' on youtube - it's posted below and it is literally a bass monster of a tune. Riskotheque's tracks always seem to me to balance nicely between the world of extreme wobbliness and chilled rolling bliss. The man has got some serious production skills and his talents as a deejay selecta should also bring the club to its knees.
Supporting Riskotheque will be local drum and bass deejays DJ Fraida and Kaos Express going back to back, so you can expect a filthy selection of heavy tunes. Raw Tactics will also be making a special appearance, if you're not familiar with these Brighton dubstep producer's then you'd be well advised to head over to their soundcloud and check out their stuff. Their dubstep really will wobble you to your very core.
And finally there is some guy called Stephen 412 playing - he sounds a bit silly to me. I hear he tries to play a bit of everything so it could be an interesting little tangent in the evening. You'll have to be there on the night to truly understand what this guy gets up to on two decks.
So if you've got any sense then you'll be at the Kuku club on Wednesday the 17th March, getting down to a variety of beats by a variety of banging deejays, and all for the low-low price of £3 before midnight. Get on it.
